The Modi’in Women’s Fund is a pooled charity by women for women in Modi’in that aims to create a community of women who are committed to improving women’s lives. The Fund raises money, primarily through small donations from the local community, and distributes the money at annual or semi-annual intervals. The funds are distributed in in two ways: grants to women’s non-profit activities and grants to individual women of Modi’in who are working to transform their own lives. The purpose is to create a financial resource for activities aimed at empowering women.
Why a women’s fund?
Women continue to experience barriers to full participation and fairness in society, which negatively impact their communities. Financial inequality, lack of political representation, relationship abuse and insufficient professional skills are just some of the factors preventing women and girls from attaining economic self-sufficiency in Modi’in and beyond. Women comprise 75% of all workers in the not-profit world, but make up only a small portion of leadership and decision-makers. In some Jewish communities around the world, men make on average $20,000 more annually than women. In Israel, women make 30% less than men for equal work. Meanwhile, among foundation grants over $10,000 only seven percent goes specifically to women and girls. At the Modi’in Women’s Fund, we believe that if we do not invest in women and girls, their children, their families, and the entire State of Israel will suffer.
Why should YOU join?
The Fund is built primarily on membership dues from women of Modi’in and beyond, in the amount of 1400 NIS/year (120 NIS or $36 per month). These funds are compounded by once-off donations from women and men in Modi’in and around the world, as well as from fundraising events held several times per year. Grant applications are accepted all year round, and members of the Fund meet twice a year to make allocation decisions. The purpose is to provide a vital financial resource to enable the work of improving women’s lives.
